After the resignation of Jony Ive, another historic piece of Apple announces the decision to leave the company: it is Steve Dowling, with the bitten apple for 16 years and in the last 5 at the head of the team that managed the communication. The choice was made known through a note sent in the past few days to the staff members of which we report below a couple of extracts in translated form.
After 16 years at Apple, countless keynotes, product launches and occasional PR crises, I decided that the time has come for me to leave our incredible company.
Steve Dowling leaves Apple
The Cupertino company salutes and thanks its now former employee honoring the contribution provided in over three decades of collaboration, passing from the launch of the first iPhone to the installation of Tim Cook as Steve Jobs’ successor, arriving at the current moment of transition which sees the company increasingly focused on services in a process of renewing its business. Dowling continues in his message:
It’s something I’ve been thinking about for a long time, a decision I made during the last (for me really the last) cycle of launches. Your plans are defined and the team is performing them brilliantly, as always. So the time has come.
Dowling joined Apple after working as a journalist for CNBC. His position will be covered interim by Phil Schiller (number one of the Marketing team) waiting to identify a successor. The note closes with “I will always bleed six colors” with reference to the six colors of the company’s first logo.
