“K.G.F: Chapter 2,” directed by Prashanth Neel and starring Yash, was the second highest-earning film globally over Easter weekend, according to Comscore figures. “Fantastic Beasts: The Secrets of Dumbledore” took home $114.7 million over the weekend.

“K.G.F: Chapter 2” is a sequel to the $33 million-grossing Kannada-language film “K.G.F: Chapter 1,” which was released in 2018. The film tracked the adventures of gangster Rocky (Yash) as he attempted to seize control of the Kolar Gold Fields in the 1970s and 1980s. In the sequel, his journey continues, but the stakes are higher, with his opponents including India’s Prime Minister. Sanjay Dutt, Raveena Tandon, and Prakash Raj are also among the cast members of “KGF: Chapter 2.”

“K.G.F: Chapter 2,” produced by Vijay Kiragandur for Hombale Films, had a $13 million budget.

The film was premiered in Kannada on April 14, which is New Year’s Day for many Indian groups, with dubbed versions in Telugu, Tamil, Hindi, and Malayalam. The film debuted in ninth place in the United States with a weekend gross of $2.5 million.

“K.G.F: Chapter 2” made more money in its first weekend than another recent Indian blockbuster, S.S. Rajamouli’s “RRR,” starring NTR Jr and Ram Charan, which made $65 million in its first weekend and currently has a total of $140 million.

Over the four-day weekend in India, the Hindi-dubbed version of “K.G.F: Chapter 2” surpassed Rajamouli’s “Baahubali 2: The Conclusion,” which had previously held the record with $20.9 million.

“K.G.F: Chapter 2” received a lot of attention on Imax screens both in the United States and abroad. Its Imax debut in India outperformed “Spider-Man: No Way Home,” grossing $762,000. The picture grossed $1.1 million worldwide, including $1.1 million in India, in 95 Imax theaters.

The other highly anticipated Indian movie of the Easter weekend, Vijay’s Tamil-language feature “Beast,” opened to mixed reviews and grossed $25 million.

Next up for Neel is “Salaar,” which stars Prabhas from the “Baahubali” franchise, and “NTR31,” which stars NTR Jr. from “RRR.”
