Jaguar has suspended the project to create an electric car based on the gasoline model E-type, produced in the 60s and 70s of the last century, Electrek reports citing a letter from a representative of Jaguar Land Rover.

In recent years, many automakers have introduced or even started selling electric cars. Typically, these models have an unusual conceptual design like a Tesla Cybertruck or a Volkswagen ID.3, or completely replicate the design of existing models, like the electric version of the Volvo XC40. But some manufacturers create electric cars based on their famous models in the past, for example, Volkswagen has created an electric version of the minivan Type 2.

In 2017, Jaguar introduced an electric version of the famous E-type model, but unlike many companies, this was not planned as a one-time conversion. The automaker announced that it will sell such cars, as well as parts for self-installation of electric motors, batteries and other necessary elements. It was planned that many components for the electric version of the E-type would be taken from the Jaguar I-Pace electric vehicle project, which has been manufactured since 2018.

Now it became known that users who showed interest in the car after its announcement received a letter in which the company announced the suspension of the project for an unnamed reason. The company representative noted that it will concentrate on other projects of the Jaguar Classic program in which specialists restore and maintain old brand cars in good condition.

The electric version of the E-type was to have a 40-kilowatt-hour battery, which should have been enough for 270 kilometres. In addition, the car was equipped with an electronic dashboard and LED headlights.

In addition to the initiatives of the automakers themselves, there are third-party companies that turn the famous models of old cars into electric ones. It is noteworthy that one of them works with Jaguar, but not with E-type, but with XK120.
