The German Police killed a man armed with a knife in front of a police station in the city of Gelsenkirchen (west) on Sunday, without the motives of the suspect being clear.

Police have indicated in a statement that the suspect was 37 years old and has asked potential witnesses to contact the authorities to provide information on the investigations.

Police spokesman Christopher Grauwinkel has indicated in statements to the German news agency DPA that the possibility of a terrorist act is among the hypotheses, although at the moment it has not been confirmed that it was an attempted attack.

Grauwinkel has detailed that the attacker hit a police vehicle with an object, after which he approached an agent with this object in one hand and a knife in the other.

Thus, he said that after the man did not respond to the agent’s orders to do so, he opened fire on him, killing him on the spot.
