Germany accuses six other Volkswagen employees of ‘dieselgate’ fraud

Six more employees of Volkswagen have been accused of fraud in Germany in relation to the case of software that altered the emissions of some diesel vehicles, as reported by the prosecutor of the German city Braunschweig.

The six individuals are accused of tax evasion and forgery of documents during the period from November 2006 to September 2015, when the software problem was first known.

According to the prosecution, suspects are allegedly widely responsible for deceiving Volkswagen customers and regulators with the help of software designed to deceive the testing of environmental emissions from diesel cars.

The former president of the Volkswagen group Martin Winterkorn is also charged with fraud in Braunschweig.

For its part, the company has reported in a statement that the criminal investigations of the Braunschweig prosecutor’s office against the consortium “were closed as a result of the administrative fine imposed in 2018,” which the company accepted and paid that same year.

“The accusation of other people by the prosecutor’s office in Braunschweig, which has now been made public, is related to investigations against individuals on which Volkswagen will not comment,” the company has settled.
