“Tweet your own defeat”: each Trump tweet generates money to defeat him

Democratic activists have found an ingenious way to confront US President Donald Trump. They have made him their main ally to raise funds against his reelection. Through the digital platform Defeat by Tweet – Win by a tweet – they collect money with each tweet that the president publishes.

Those Internet users who oppose Trump’s policies can access the platform and sign up to automatically donate one to 10 cents each time the American leader posts a comment on his Twitter account.

The proceeds go to the Justice Fund, a group of political organizations led by the African American community that promotes changes in the criminal justice system, among other activities, according to ABC News.

“This is a way of creating direct consequences for their actions. The more you spread hate, the worse your chances of reelection will be,” Xander Schultz, founder of Defeat by Tweet, told the US media.

The forecasts on the possible collection are encouraging: Schultz explains that Trump publishes an average of 30 daily tweets. The platform will limit donations to $ 45 per month for each user or 900 monthly tweets.

If the creators of this initiative get a million people to donate an average of two cents per tweet, Trump will indirectly contribute $ 18 million a month to the organizations in question. The truth is that activists plan between 50 and 100 million dollars for November.

“I want people to feel empowered,” says Schultz, and then summarize his idea: to help Trump “tweet his own defeat.” The goal, he explains, is “to capture this momentum around Black Lives Matter and translate it into serious support for black political power.”

The service is supported by Momentum, an application that provides tools to finance non-profit organizations.
