The Chinese company Kandi will launch two battery-powered cars in the US market in the coming months. If everything goes as planned, it will become the cheapest electric vehicles for sale in the North American country.

The automaker announced that the K27 and K23 cars will hit the streets of the US this year. With a price tag of less than $ 30,000, it will be cheaper than any other battery electric vehicle (BEV) in the country.

According to Kandi America, representative of the Chinese brand in the US, the smaller model, the K27, will retail for $ 19,999, while its older brother, the K23, will cost $ 29,999. That means that after federal tax incentives for electric vehicles are applied, the cars will cost only $ 12,999 and $ 22,499, respectively.

The value is significantly less than that of the BEVs currently available to American consumers. The price of the K27 is, for example, the equivalent of about a third of the value of the Tesla 3, the most affordable car from the most famous electric vehicle brand.

The Kandi K27 is a city car that has a 17.69 kWh battery, which charges in seven hours. According to the manufacturer, the car is capable of reaching a top speed of just over 100 kilometres per hour. It has a range of 160 kilometres and can accommodate up to four people.

The K23, meanwhile, is superior in virtually every way. Its 41.4 kW h battery allows it to reach more than 110 kilometres per hour and gives it a range of more than 300 kilometres. Despite being noticeably more spacious, it also accommodates four people.

The vehicles will be officially launched in a virtual event on August 18, when the presales will begin. The company will start deliveries as early as the fourth quarter of this year. Initially, sales will focus on the Dallas-Fort Worth metropolitan area of Texas, where Kandi America’s headquarters is located.
