The biggest drop was recorded in the market value of the Belgian left-winger of Real Madrid Eden Hazard, falling from €120 million to € 80 million

The coronavirus pandemic has had a huge impact on the entire football ecosystem. Teams are facing an unprecedented crisis, reducing their profits and creating liquidity problems for them. In addition to causing complex problems and dilemmas for club owners, the pandemic has also dealt a huge blow to the value of footballers.

According to data from SafeBettingSites.com, the combined value of the 5 most expensive footballers in the world amounted to € 676 million in April, down by € 144 million compared to December 2019.

KPMG’s analysis on the impact of the coronavirus crisis on the value of footballers has revealed that the combined value of all 4,183 players in ten European leagues will be reduced by € 6.6 billion, a drop of 17.7% if the games continue to be held behind closed doors.

The biggest drop was recorded in the buying value of the Belgian winger of Real Madrid Eden Hazard, falling from € 120 million to € 80 million between December and April. Neymar’s purchase value fell by € 32 million to € 128 million euros, while the value of Manchester City striker Raheem Sterling was reduced by the same percentage.

They are followed by 2 of the 3 in the offensive treble, with Sadio Mane and Mohamed Salah losing € 30 million each. TransferMarkt data showed that Neymar’s teammate in Paris Saint-Germain, Kylian Mbappe, the most expensive player in the world, saw his value fell by € 20 million from € 200 million in December to € 180 million in 2020.

Although the coronavirus crisis has caused significant devaluations in the value of the most expensive footballers, some players have seen their value increase in 2020.

Bayern Munich’s young star Alphonso Davies market valuation rose by € 35 million since December last year, reaching € 60 million in July, the most significant increase for 2020. Borussia Dortmund’s Erling Haaland is second in the list, whose value increased by € 27 million to € 72 million in April 2020.
