Erdogan announces the discovery of a large natural gas field in the Black Sea

Published on

The Turkish drillship Fatih discovered in the Black Sea an estimated natural gas field of about 320 billion cubic meters, Turkey’s President Recep Tayyip Erdogan declared.

“Our Fatih ship discovered the most important deposit in the Black Sea, its volume reaches about 320 billion cubic meters,” said the president in a televised program.

Erdogan stressed that the stability of Turkey’s economy depends on energy security.

“Today is a historic day for us because we already have our own resources to guarantee our energy security,” Erdogan said.

He commented that from now on it will be necessary to create the infrastructure for gas extraction and by 2023 Turkey will begin to use its own gas.

He also emphasized that the uncovered reserves may be only a part of the total volume of the deposit.

“We hope to discover the same thing in the Mediterranean Sea and to do so we will accelerate the exploration of energy resources,” Erdogan said, adding that “our goal is to solve all the energy problems in the country.”

“We will continue to advance towards our objectives and protect our interests. All those who oppose us on this path, firstly Greece, know that we are right. The EU, which spoiled Greece, again betrayed its principles and demonstrated a double-moral policy. It should not be forgotten that all invalid maps that are unimportant will one day cause the greatest damage to the EU itself,” Erdogan added.
