A skydiver jumps for the first time in history from a solar-powered plane

Published on

Swiss skydiver Raphael Domjan became the first man to jump from a solar-powered plane.

From a height of at least 1,520 meters above western Switzerland, Raphael Domjan performed the skydiving with the aim of promoting renewable energy.

The jump was made from a two-seater plane when it reached a speed of 150 kilometers per hour until it reached the project’s base in the city of Payerne.

In this way, Raphael Domjan managed to demonstrate that renewable energy can be used to carry out all kinds of activities without producing greenhouse gases that warm the planet.

The SolarStrato project completed the first circumnavigation of the world with a plane powered by solar energy in 2016 and in 2022 it aims to fly at a higher altitude of about 20,000 meters using exclusively solar energy until reaching the stratosphere.
