Protests flare up again in Portland against police brutality and racial discrimination

Protests against racism and police violence flare up again in Portland, USA. The media reports that a person was killed during a confrontation between supporters of the ‘Black Lives Matter’ movement and a group of supporters of President Donald Trump.

Portland Police confirmed that both the death and violence during the protests took place in the city center. However, they did not link the death to the demonstrations.

“A homicide investigation is underway in downtown Portland after a shooting Saturday night [August 29],” a Portland Police spokesman said in a statement.

On August 24, a video went viral on social media where two Kenosha Police officers were seen firing shots at Jacob Blake, a black man, who was trying to get behind the wheel of his vehicle.

To the surprise of many, Jacob Blake survived the shooting, although this incident left him paralyzed from the waist down. As a result, violent riots broke out and the National Guards were deployed.

In the days that followed, a state of emergency was declared in Wisconsin after nights of rioting, yet another shooting took place that left people dead and injured during the violent protests.

The city of Kenosha, located in the state of Wisconsin, has become the epicenter of violent protests after a police shooting against an African-American citizen.

On August 26, US Police arrested a teen suspected of the shooting who was charged with first-degree murder.

Protests against police brutality and racism have erupted in Portland, Washington and other US cities after the death of African-American Floyd in police custody on May 25.
