Our favorite TV vigilante is back: Showtime announces limited series on Dexter

Creators from showtime have announced that they will be reviving its one the best shows ‘Dexter’ in a limited series form.

Miami Police Department’s blood splatter analyst will be back in our living rooms after a gap of more than seven years (although he has left his day job).

Michael C. Hall, who played the lead character, will be reprising his role as Dexter in the limited series. The shooting will start early next and the show is expected to be premiered in fall of 2020, dates are yet to be confirmed.

The co-President of Entertainment at Showtime, Gary Levine, emphasized that the showrunners were willing to bring back this ‘unique’ character only if they could find a worthy creative story to tell and finally it seems they have found one.

He said:

Dexter is such a special series, both for its millions of fans and for Showtime, as this breakthrough show helped put our network on the map many years ago. We would only revisit this unique character if we could find a creative take that was truly worthy of the brilliant, original series.  Well, I am happy to report that Clyde Phillips and Michael C. Hall have found it, and we can’t wait to shoot it and show it to the world.”

The show’s first season was based on the book written by Jeff Lindsay, but as it progressed into its further seasons it completely diverged its storyline from the books further written by the author.

Although the way people consume TV content on various online platforms has changed drastically in these past seven years, Dexter’s popularity seems to be increasing. Even after 14 years when its first episode was released and we were introduced to this eccentric Miami Police employee and his sister, the show continues to be one of the best produced by the Showtime.

Showtime’s other TV series are Homeland, Ray Donovan, Californication, The Affair have also done pretty well for themselves.

In previous instances, Hall had acknowledged the possibility that if Show comes back, he is willing to reprising his role.

Spoiler alert

The 8 seasons of the show took Dexter to his extremes and made him fake his own death, in the process, he lost his wife (Rita Bennett), sister (Debra Morgan)and had to move to give up his son Harrison and the love of his life Hannah who moved away to live in Argentina.
