Some toothpastes and mouthwashes can kill Coronavirus (COVID-19) up to 99.9% in the mouth itself, new lab studies detail.

Mouthwashes, containing cetylpyridinium chloride (CPC), can kill the coronavirus in half a minute, while Toothpastes having zinc and stannous fluoride substance can neutralize the sars-cov-2 virus in 2 minutes, a new study published in the Journal British Dental Journal claims.

The research was conducted by the Colgate company in collaboration with the New Jersey Rutgers Medical School (NJMS) and Regional Biocontainment Laboratory of Newark.

“We’re at the early stages of our clinical investigations, but our preliminary laboratory and clinical results are very promising. While brushing and rinsing are not a treatment or a way to fully protect a person from infection, they can help reduce transmission

explains Colgate-Palmolive dental director Maria Ryan, quoted by the Dental Tribune.

Since the start of the coronavirus pandemic, more than 71 million cases have already been registered worldwide. Of these, nearly 50 million have recovered, while more than 1.6 million have died.

The rate of mortality by COVID-19 grew by 60% worldwide in the last six weeks, as reported by Maria Van Kerkhove, an American infectious disease epidemiologist at World Health Organization (WHO).
