COVID vaccines will be effective for a long time – scientists

Experts, in a new work, reveal that immunity to COVID-19 lasts for at least eight months. This means that coronavirus vaccines will protect a person from re-infection for a long period.

Australian scientists have found that those infected with the coronavirus have an immune memory to protect against re-infection for at least eight months. A new work by experts has shown that COVID vaccines will work for a long time, writes MedicalXpress.

“This study is the most compelling evidence that vaccines against the SARS-CoV-2 virus will work for a long time,” said scientists from Australia’s Monash University.

Prior to this, it was believed that the first antibodies to COVID-19 begin to lose their effectiveness after the first few months.

Experts conducted a study involving 25 coronavirus patients and collected 36 blood samples from patients from the fourth day of infection until the 242nd day after infection.

As with other studies that only looked at the antibody response, the researchers found that antibody counts began to decline after 20 days of infection.

“However, importantly, all patients continued to have memory B cells that recognized one of the two components of the SARS-CoV-2 virus, the spike and nucleocapsid proteins. These virus-specific memory B cells were stable for eight months after infection,” the experts noted in their scientific work.

Scientists believe coronavirus vaccines will be effective.

“This gives real hope that once vaccines are developed, they will provide long-term protection,” summed up Menno van Zelm from the Department of Immunology and Pathology at Monash University.

According to WHO experts, the prospects for a vaccine against COVID-19 are phenomenal. The WHO believes that countries themselves must decide who will be vaccinated first. But first, doctors, pensioners and people with concomitant diseases must be vaccinated.
