DuctFIT air purification devices are able to inactivate the coronavirus to 99% in 15 minutes, according to a study by the CSIC. This Spanish stamp technology is designed for closed spaces such as hospitals, companies and schools.
Cleaning the air indoors is one of the biggest headaches of the pandemic. The danger of aerosols is mitigated by ventilation, but not all spaces can enjoy the continuous entry and exit of air. Since the beginning of the health crisis, different methods have appeared for disinfection of rooms. There have been talks of ozone techniques or machines that emit ultraviolet light. The latest is the DuctFIT technology, developed by the Malaga company CleanAir Spaces.

It is a solution that bases its effectiveness on the constant generation of hydrogen peroxide molecules. According to the company, you just have to place the products in the air ducts, and “from there these highly disinfectant molecules spread throughout the space, eliminating viruses and bacteria 24 hours a day.” When the process is activated, the air vapor is converted into H2O2 molecules, which surround the virus and affect its lipid membrane or its proteins. Thus, its infectious capacity is inactivated.

This compound is dispensed by a device that does not need to be turned off. After installation, the software controls and visualizes all the devices. The system incorporates an Artificial Intelligence platform with advanced sensors that allows remote management of the equipment and also the measurement of air quality in real-time.
Validity checked by the Higher Council for Scientific Research (CSIC) and the Autonomous University of Madrid. To do this, an analysis has been carried out at the Severo Ochoa Center for Molecular Biology under the direction of Professor Antonio Alcamí. Testing has been conducted in a high-security level three bio-safety laboratory, where the technology’s ability to inhibit the virus has been proven.
The center has carried out two experiments and at different times of 5, 15, 30 minutes, and one and three hours. The final result indicates that this method kills 88% of the virus in five minutes; within 15, it ends up approx 99.7% and, in half an hour, 99.8%.
The CSIC study verifies the microbiological research of the Virgen de las Nieves University Hospital in Granada. It inferred that this technique inactivated coronavirus 100% in six hours.
The high degree of effectiveness, but also safety for people who are exposed to the solution. Laboratories of the National Accreditation Entity (ENAC) have concluded that the device does not emit any harmful components to health and is also able to reduce the concentration of harmful chemical compounds. In addition, they have certified that DuctFIT removes 99.9% of the bacteria it has been tested with, such as salmonella, legionella, and antibiotic-resistant superbacteria KPCs.
This air purification mode is currently installed in more than 28 million square meters of offices, schools, and health centers. It is located in the Virgen de las Nieves hospital in Granada or in the premises of companies such as Inditex, El Corte Inglés, Ferrari, Coca Cola, BBVA or Tesla.
