Billy Porter didn’t tell anyone about his diagnosis in 2007. Even the actor’s mother didn’t know. The “Pose” star admits that that year was the worst for him. He was very ashamed of his diagnosis.
It all started with a pimple, which bothered the actor. Billy went to the hospital and was asked to take an HIV test. That’s when the doctor said that the test was positive.
The actor continued to build his career and continued to hide the disease because he understood that if “the wrong people” found out about it, it would be another reason for discrimination. And there are enough of them.
Now the actor feels healthier than ever. He took a course with a psychologist and got rid of this stigma. Porter realizes that his diagnosis will haunt him for a long time, but he has learned to cope with it.
