The children who were almost injured were not acquainted with the victim.

Two young children were nearly injured in a shooting on a sidewalk in New York on Thursday evening when they were knocked down by a man fleeing an armed assailant.

It is noted that the incident occurred in the Bronx. Surveillance footage released by law enforcement officers shows an unknown man in black shooting several times at a man lying on the sidewalk next to two children aged 5 and 10.

The video also shows an older girl trying to cover the younger child with her hands.

“Yes, those are children with the victim, who were very fortunately not injured,” police said.

It is known that the victim did not know the children with whom he defended himself from the shooter. Meanwhile, law enforcement officials are urging the public to help identify the two men involved in the incident.

In the video you can see the girl pull the younger boy and cover him as bullets rang out around them.

The suspect then hopped on the back of a scooter operated by another individual and both fled the scene, heading northbound on Sheridan Avenue, police said.

According to the NYPD, the victim was taken to an area hospital by private means. While his condition was not clear, police Friday morning said he was “stable.”

The NYPD released the video of the incident above in hopes the public could help identify the suspect, who they described as a man wearing sunglasses and all-black clothing.

The getaway driver was described as a man wearing a white baseball cap, a red long-sleeved shirt and dark-colored shorts.
