You’re not you when you’re hungry: An elephant smashes a wall in search of food

Published on

A hungry wild elephant sniffed the food and broke through the wall of a house in Thailand to steal a bag of rice.

The incident took place in the city of Hua Hin in the south of the country. Rachadawan Phungprasopporn and her husband woke up from the noise in the kitchen and went to see what was going on there.

However, they certainly did not expect to see an elephant there.

As it turned out, the hungry animal smelled the smell of food and, having come to its source, simply broke through the wall.

As you can see in the footage captured by them, the elephant searched the kitchen with its trunk and, finding a package of rice, sent it into its mouth.

The owners managed to drive away the troublemaker, after which he disappeared into the jungle.

She said:

This elephant is well known in the area because he causes a lot of mischief.

He came to the house about two months ago and was looking around, but he didn’t damage anything then.

We spoke to the local wildlife officers and they told us not to keep food out in the kitchen because the smell attracts the elephants, so we followed their advice.

The wall will cost about 50,000 Baht ($1,560) to repair. It was funny to see the elephant like that but also I’m worried he could come back again.
