The Chinese communist paper, the Global Times, tried to blame the United States for the global pandemic more than a year and a half after the virus was detected.
The newspaper, which is a branch of People’s Daily, the spokesman for the Communist Party, said that Americans were “politicizing the origin-tracing research” and placing scientists in the center of a “political storm”.
In the article, the Global Times cited a study analyzing antibodies in over 24,000 blood samples from the U.S. National Institute of Health.

China said the findings show that the virus was in the United States much earlier than detected.
Samples were collected between Jan. 2 and March 18, 2020.
Two positive cases of COVID-19 were reported on January 7, which Global Times reports suggests the virus was in the United States as early as December 2019, when the first case of infections was recorded in Wuhan.
The paper cites a Wuhan virologist saying that research has shown that “epidemic in the US probably emerged earlier than in Wuhan”.

The US has nearly all the variants spreading around the world, based on this, the virus most likely originated in the US rather than the Wuhan lab.
According to the Global Times, Western scientists who dare to expose the origin of the virus are at risk.
According to the article, an American scientist who was part of the joint WHO-China team investigating the source of the virus was one such “target”.
It further claimed a source had claimed the expert is being “personally threatened by emails, phone calls and messages on social media”.
The followers of the far right are to blame, according to the communist newspaper that pointed to the Republican Party.
It said “people who attacked him generally have far-right and even white supremacism leanings”, adding: “GOP members of Congress are whipping those extremists up now.”
Former U.S. President Donald Trump has received criticism for calling COVID-19 the “Chinese virus”.
He repeatedly blamed Beijing for releasing the virus around the world and also severely criticized the way the WHO handled the epidemic.
During this time, a group of scientists who rejected Wuhan’s laboratory theory doubled on their request in a new letter.
In the letter published in the Lancet, they wrote:
Recently, many of us have individually received inquiries asking whether we still support what we said in early 2020.
The answer is clear: we reaffirm our expression of solidarity with those in China who confronted the outbreak then, and the many health professionals around the world who have since worked to exhaustion, and at personal risk, in the relentless and continuing battle against this virus.
