Bryson DeChambeau slammed after hitting a fan with his opening tee shot during the Ryder Cup

Published on

Bryson DeChambeau would have hoped to get off to a strong start at the Ryder Cup after dominating headlines ahead of the tournament due to his feud with Brooks Koepka, but that wasn’t the case.

With a lot of pressure on his shoulders, DeChambeau looked to bomb his first tee shot in the fourballs action – after missing out on the foursomes earlier in the day – with the possibility of reaching the green in one.

The American, however, pulled his effort to the left and inadvertently hit an onlooker on the ankle while she was sitting on the grass at the side of the opening hole at Whistling Straits.

It’s unclear whether DeChambeau shouted fore, but the woman in question appeared surprised when she was struck.

The big-hitting American has previously been accused of failing to shout fore after wayward shots, and golf fans immediately took to social media to criticise him after his latest poor tee shot.

“Do you think its time USPGA or the PGA start handing out sanctions to Bryson DeChambeau, if he does not shout ‘FORE’, before he injures someone seriously or even worse?” one Twitter user asked.

Another slammed: ” @b_dechambeau how about yelling fore instead of letting you ball hit a fan. Didn’t anyone teach you golf etiquette?!”

And a third social media user said: “Hey @b_dechambeau how about shouting fore on the first rather than trying to get the crowd going…..just took out one of your lady fans!!”

The extent of the Ryder Cup spectator’s injury at Whistling Straits is unknown at this time. The fan clutches her ankle after being struck by DeChambeau’s errant tee shot.

Meanwhile, despite his errant tee shot, DeChambeau made a remarkable birdie on the first hole while playing alongside Scottie Scheffler.

America has dominated the early stages of the Ryder Cup, defeating Europe 3-1 in the first foursomes action in Wisconsin.

After Europe’s first point was won by Jon Rahm and Sergio Garcia, the Americans quickly took control, leaving Europe with nothing to do.
