The American actress strikes a deal with Marvel and Disney to work on a new project beyond Black Widow, Kevin Feige acknowledged.

Kevin Feige, Marvel Studios’ president, said during Thursday night’s American Cinematheque Award event honoring Johansson that she had rejoined Marvel as a producer on a secret Marvel project.

“We are already working with Scarlett on another non-Black Widow related top-secret Marvel Studios project with her as a producer,” Feige said from the stage of the Beverly Hilton Hotel.

He continued, “Scarlett is one of the most talented, versatile, and beloved actors of our time. It has truly been a pleasure to work with someone of her caliber, from the epic training sessions preparing for the hallway fight in Iron Man 2 to the around-the-world press tour for Avengers: Endgame to partnering with you as a producer on Black Widow. Working with you, Scarlett, has truly been one of the most memorable and rewarding collaborations of my career.”

According to Feige, Johansson was the first performer to co-produce a Marvel Studios film alongside Black Widow.

“From our very first few meetings, it was clear she had a vision for this movie, how to tell this story,” he said.

Additionally, the Marvel CEO lauded her “deep level of character connections” and her “push to make Black Widow an ensemble character.”

So, even if her character, Natasha Romanoff, didn’t make her to the conclusion of Avengers: Endgame — two-year spoiler alert! — Johansson is sticking around. This comes after Johansson and Marvel reached a settlement in her lawsuit against the company over the release of Black Widow. She claimed Disney broke her contract by simultaneously releasing the film in cinemas and on the Disney+ streaming channel.

In September statements, Johansson expressed excitement about “continuing our collaboration in years to come ,” while a Disney spokesman emphasized their work on the upcoming Tower of Terror film.

So, what is Johansson now working on for Marvel?

Marvel has previously announced a slew of projects for Disney+, including a second season of What If…?, a Hawkeye spin-off series called Echo, and a WandaVision spin-off called Agatha: House of Harkness.

On the film front, there are presently five untitled Marvel Studios films scheduled for release between 2023 and 2024. And that’s after we go through the titles we already know are coming, including Spider-Man: No Way Home and Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, as well as Guardians of the Galaxy, Vol. 3 and Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania.

Earlier in his speech, Feige discussed how Johansson’s Black Widow opened the path for the MCU’s other important female superheroes. Perhaps that was a hint, and Johansson will assist bring another female superhero to the big screen. Perhaps Florence Pugh’s Yelena is covertly developing her own film with Johansson serving as producer mentor.

Gotta like Feige for stating just enough to create a frenzy of speculation.

Marvel and Johansson representatives did not immediately reply to calls for comment.
