Paris attack: French court delays Salah Abdeslam’s trial, citing COVID-19

Published on

Salah Abdeslam, the main suspect in the November 2015 Islamist attack in Paris that killed 130 people, and others’ trials will be temporarily halted in January as Abdeslam has been infected with SARS-COV-2, according to the sources.

The criminal trial will continue on Tuesday but will be officially postponed until January 13, according to the source.

Prosecutors believe Abdeslam, 31, is the last surviving member of the ISIS cell that carried out the gun-and-bomb attacks on bars, restaurants, the Bataclan concert hall, and the Stade de France stadium on Nov. 13, 2015.

The trial, which began in September in a specially built courtroom in the historic Palace of Justice in Paris, is one of the most complicated – and closely watched – in recent French history.

No verdict is expected until May 2022.
