“What a moron”: Senator Roger Marshall introducing bill to make Fauci’s pay public

Published on

It looks like Sen. Roger Marshall, a Republican from Kansas, is planning to introduce a bill that would make Dr. Anthony Fauci’s salary and other financial information public.

This comes after the COVID-19 pandemic leader was caught on a microphone calling Marshall a “moron.”

The conservative senator hopes that the Financial Accountability for Uniquely Compensated Individuals Act will make it easy for Americans to learn about the salaries and financial disclosures of senior government officials.

Fauci, who earns over $400,000 a year as President Joe Biden’s top health adviser, is correct in claiming that the information is already available and that Marshall only needed to inquire.

There was no news on when Marshall will introduce the bill or whether it would pass in the Democratic-controlled Congress. He has yet to publicize the draft legislation’s text.

Marshall, who announced his plan on Twitter on Friday, appears to be hoping to re-enact his tense exchange with Fauci at a Senate hearing earlier this week.

“Would you be willing to submit to Congress and the public a financial disclosure that includes your past and current investments?” Marshall asked Fauci.

“I don’t understand why you’re asking me that question,” Fauci replied, noting that his financial disclosures have been public since he joined the National Institutes of Health more than 30 years ago. “You’re so misinformed. It’s extraordinary.”

Fauci was inadvertently captured on a live microphone saying: “What a moron, Jesus Christ!” shortly after the angry encounter.

Fauci is the most well-known public face of the COVID-19 pandemic response. Because of his support for immunizations and other preventive steps to stem the spread of the deadly illness, he has become a lightning rod for conservatives.

According to good governance groups, Fauci is correct, and his records are available to the public. However, they argue that the procedure is cumbersome and should be streamlined.
