Scientists reveal a vitamin that reduces the risk of 11 types of cancer

Published on

The burden of cancer incidence and death is rising rapidly due to human age and development, as well as changes in the prevalence and distribution of cancer risk factors.

Cancer has surpassed heart disease as the top cause of death. As a result of the rising cancer prevalence, an increasing number of individuals are becoming physically and financially afflicted by cancer, and developing anticancer drugs has become a pressing requirement.

For decades, vitamin C has been known and treated as a wound-healing and infection-prevention medication. It’s a water-soluble vitamin that helps with antioxidants, collagen formation, carnitine and catecholamine metabolism, and iron absorption in the diet.

To see if it can help in the treatment of cancer, a team of Chinese researchers examined 3562 scientific papers on the link between vitamin C consumption and the development of several types of cancer and found that consuming the vitamin lowers the incidence of 11 types of diseases.

Intake of vitamin C has been linked to a lower risk of bladder cancer, breast cancer, cervical tumors, endometrial cancer, esophageal cancer, gastric cancer, glioma, lung cancer, pancreatic cancer, prostate cancer, renal cell carcinoma, and overall cancer incidence.

The authors of the article recommended daily consumption of at least 200 mg of ascorbic acid.

At the same time, they emphasized that fruits and vegetables are the main sources of vitamin C, and other useful substances enter the human body with them.

Thus, all of them in combination with ascorbic acid can give an antitumor effect.
