Germany demands concrete evidence of Russia’s announced partial pullout of troops. Russia appears to be increasing its military deployment, according to NATO.

The German government has demanded that Russia provide convincing evidence of the announced partial evacuation of Russian troops from the Ukrainian border area. The declarations are encouraging, but the evidence is still missing, according to a government spokesman. Germany spokesperson expects the situation to improve in the following days.

Russia’s troop deployment, according to NATO, is contrary to previous announcements. “So far, we have not seen any de-escalation on the ground. On the contrary, it appears that Russia continues their military buildup,” Jens Stoltenberg, NATO Secretary-General, remarked in Brussels.

The battle zone still has much “more than 100,000” Russian troops.

On Tuesday, Russian Defense Ministry spokesman Igor Konashenkov said, according to the report announced that “the detachments of the South and West military districts that fulfilled their missions are preparing this Tuesday to return to their bases in trains and troop transfer vehicles.”

The placement of Russian troops along Ukraine’s border has raised tensions in recent months, which the international community has interpreted as a probable prelude for a “invasion.” Russia has refuted these allegations and accused NATO of ramping up military action in the region.

For his part, the Kremlin spokesman, Dmitry Sergeyevich Peskov, stressed during the day that “the movement of Russian troops is carried out within the state border” and added that “the magnitude of the movement of Ukrainian troops is carried out in the border area with the people’s republics in Donbas and can be compared to the size of the movement of troops in Russia”.
