Winter Storm Packing Snow, Freezing Rain Moves Across U.S.

For some regions, the winter storm warning issued early this morning has been increased to a winter storm warning, indicating that the risk of heavy snow has increased.

The National Weather Service issued a winter storm warning for La Salle, Kendall, Grundy, Kankakee, Livingston, parts of Cook, and parts of Will counties in Illinois early Thursday morning until the evening.

In Indiana, the warning was also issued for Lake and Porter counties.

In southwest Michigan, the warning was also issued to Battle Creek, Jackson, Hillsdale, Coldwater, Adrian, Ann Arbor, the entire Detroit area, Oakland County and St. Clair County.

The alert will be in place from 3 a.m. until 9 p.m. on Thursday.

Rain and sleet will likely shift to heavy snowfall by Thursday afternoon, with accumulations of 1 to 8 inches possible.

A winter storm watch was also issued for DeKalb, Kane, DuPage, Cook, LaSalle, Kendall, Grundy, Will and Kankakee counties in Illinois, along with Lake, Porter, LaPorte, Newton and Jasper counties in Indiana, from Wednesday night through Thursday evening.

In DuPage, La Salle, Kendall, Grundy, Kankakee, Livingston, parts of Cook and parts of Will counties in Illinois, as well as Lake, Porter, Newton and Jasper counties in Indiana, a wind advisory is in effect from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Wednesday.
