In Obion County, Tennessee, two men were slain in a camel attack on Thursday afternoon.

The attack occurred near Shirley Farms on South Bluff Road.

Around 4:45 p.m., the Obion County Sheriff’s Office received a complaint about a loose camel attacking people.

At Shirley Farms, deputies found two men unconscious on the ground and a camel loose, the Obion County Sheriff’s Office says.

Obion deputies, the Lake County Sheriff’s Office, the Ridgely Police Department, Tennessee Highway Patrol, and the Lake County Rescue Squad all came to the scene to assist the victims and transport them to safety.

An Obion County Sheriff’s Office car was reportedly attacked by a camel that then moved toward deputies who were trying to move a person who was hurt to get medical help.

According to the sheriff’s office, officers then put the camel down for the protection of everyone on the site.

Bobby Matheny, 42, of Ridgely, TN, and Tommy Gunn, 67, of Obion, TN, were the two victims. At the spot, they were pronounced dead.
