Russian rockets targeted a packed railway station used to evacuate civilians in eastern Ukraine, killing at least 35 people and injuring 100 more, according to the latest update.

Thousands of civilians were at the Kramatorsk railway station when it was targeted by two Russian rockets this morning, according to the region’s governor.

They were attempting to evacuate the eastern Donestsk area, which is bracing for President Putin’s army to launch a new onslaught. Following the strike, the municipal council issued a brief statement: “Kramatorsk railway station. Missiles. There are victims. We are clarifying the details. Stay in shelters.”

“Two rockets hit Kramatorsk railway station,” said Ukrainian Railways officials in a statement.

It later added: “According to operational data, more than 30 people were killed and more than 100 were wounded in the rocket attack on Kramatorsk railway station.”

Oleksandr Kamyshin, head of the railway company, called it “a deliberate attack on the passenger infrastructure of the railway and the residents of Kramatorsk”.

The information could not be independently verified by Revyuh team.

According to the AFP news agency, journalists on the site spotted at least 20 victims clustered together and laying under plastic sheets adjacent to the station. In the immediate aftermath of the incident, blood was pooling on the ground and packed bags were strewn outside the premises, according to the report.

According to the journalists, four cars were wrecked near the station, and the remains of a big rocket bearing the Russian phrases “for our children” were found near the main structure. Following that, bodies were observed being carried onto a military truck.

Thousands of people were at the station when the rockets hit, according to Pavlo Kyrylenko, the governor of the Donetsk region.

“The ‘Rashists’ [‘Russian fascists’] knew very well where they were aiming and what they wanted: They wanted to sow panic and fear, they wanted to take as many civilians as possible,” he said.

Kyrylenko shared a snapshot on social media depicting many bodies on the ground, surrounded by suitcases and other luggage. They were flanked by armed cops in flak jackets. Another image showed firefighters putting out what appeared to be a fire, with a cloud of grey smoke rising into the sky.

According to France24, “At least 35 people were killed and over 100 were estimated to be wounded in a Russian rocket strike on a railway station in eastern Ukraine on Friday.”
