Daughters of Putin sanctioned as UK claims will help cut “Putin’s sources of cash”

The assets of all three women will be frozen. The move comes in addition to similar steps made by the US and the European Union.

In response to Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, the United Kingdom issued sanctions on Friday against Russian President Vladimir Putin’s daughters and Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov, calling them “lavish train of life of the near-Kremlin circle.”

Putin’s daughters Katerina Tikhonova and Maria Vorontsova, as well as Lavrov’s daughter Yekaterina Vinokurova, are now barred from entering the United Kingdom, where their assets would be blocked, according to the British Foreign Ministry. The move comes in addition to similar steps made by the US and the European Union.

The UK, for its part, has sanctioned Polina Kovaleva, the daughter of Lavrov’s long-time alleged mistress.

Putin does not talk openly about his family, but the Kremlin reports that he has two daughters with his first wife, Lyudmila Shkrebneva, whom he divorced in 2013, who have mostly remained hidden from the public to the point where many Russians have no idea what they are like.

The daughters of Russian President Vladimir Putin are shrouded in secret; in fact, several international media outlets claim that they have changed their names to remain anonymous and live a life away from the spotlight.

According to Forbes magazine, Maria Vorontsova is a co-owner of Nomeko, a firm involved in the construction of a cancer center on the outskirts of St. Petersburg, and a participant in the largest Russian private investment initiative in health.

According to some news organizations, like as Reuters, she is a graduate of Moscow State University’s Department of Fundamental Medicine and a board-certified endocrinologist.

On April 28, 1985, the president’s eldest daughter was born in Leningrad, today known as St. Petersburg.

Katerina Tikhonova, for her part, is a Russian acrobatic rock and roll dancer and the executive director of the National Intellectual Development Foundation (NIDF) and the National Intellectual Reserve Center at Moscow State University. It is known that she was born on August 31, 1986, in Dresden, when his father was on his first operation as a spy.

Several international news outlets reported that she was married to Kiril Shamalov, the billionaire son of oligarch Nikolai Shamalov, who is a buddy of Putin’s and a member of his inner circle, from 2013 to 2018.

Assuring that the sanctions imposed thus far will cause an economic crisis in Russia unprecedented since the demise of the Soviet Union, the chief of British diplomacy believes that more must be imposed.

“Through the G7, we are working with partners to end the use of Russian energy and further hit Putin’s ability to fund his illegal and unjustified invasion of Ukraine,” said Liz Truss, UK’s Foreign Secretary.

“Together, we are tightening the ratchet on Russia’s war machine, cutting off Putin’s sources of cash,” he added.

Since the Russian military offensive began on February 24, the UK has sanctioned over 1,200 persons and companies, including 76 oligarchs.
