RUSSIA’s troops in Rubizhne, Luhansk accidentally shot themselves in the foot when their attempt to attack a tanker of nitric acid backfired.

Following the missile hit on the tanker, terrifying footage shows a billowing cloud of smoke and nitric acid coloring the sky over Rubizhne, eastern Ukraine, red. When nitric acid is inhaled or comes into touch with the skin, it is exceedingly hazardous. Serhiy Haidai, the head of the Luhansk Regional Military Administration, advised residents to wear “gas masks” to protect themselves from the gas.

Inhaling the smoke might induce bronchitis, disorientation, and pulmonary edema in severe situations.

Mr. Haidai said in a Telegram statement, “Prepare protective face masks soaked in soda solution.”

“When applied topically to the eyes, nitric acid causes severe damage with extensive necrosis of the cornea and conjunctiva, leading to vision loss.

“First aid: if nitric acid gets into the eyes, rinse them under running water for 10-30 minutes. If it gets on the skin, wash the affected area with water, add baking soda and soap.”

Local officials later acknowledged that there was no danger to Ukrainians’ lives, blaming the Russians for failing to strike at Luhansk’s defensive forces.

In a Facebook post, they added: “There is no threat to the life of the population.

“The Russians do not know how to fight – they did not even calculate which direction the wind blows.

“The cloud spread in the direction of their positions near Kudriashivka and Varvarivka.”

Rubizhne, along with Severodonetsk, Lysychansk, Kreminna, and Zolote, came under heavy fire on Saturday, resulting in the destruction of four residences, a warehouse, and sports infrastructure.

Officials said: “Four people have been injured, four people were rescued from the rubble and shelling, including one child.”

This week’s nitric acid tanker attack was the second of its kind in the Luhansk region.

The Russian Defense Ministry announced in March that the Luhansk People’s Republic controlled Rubizhne.

Officials in Ukraine, on the other hand, have stated that the Russian Army is still attempting to take the city.

Over the weekend, multiple Russian bombings were launched against Luhansk and the Dnipro districts, with a Ukrainian official stating that an airport was completely destroyed as a result of the strikes.

Valentyn Reznichenko, the governor of the Dnipropetrovsk region, said rescue workers were going through an infrastructure site hit in the town of Zvonetsky, adding that more information on victims would be released later.

The Russian Defence Ministry added: “Overnight high-precision missiles destroyed the base and headquarters of the nationalist Dnepr battalion in Zvonetsky, which also recently received reinforcements from foreign mercenaries.”
