An expert reveals why AstraZeneca is no longer used as booster shot

Currently, the AstraZeneca vaccine is only administered for the first and second doses of the Coronavirus vaccine.

Based on research, administering the AstraZeneca vaccine as a booster is no longer the “most effective” strategy to immunize people against the virus, according to Linda Bauld of Edinburgh University.

Multiple research centers and scores of academics participated in the COV-BOOST vaccine study to determine the best technique for vaccinating people beyond their initial and second vaccinations.

They discovered that both Pfizer and Moderna’s mRNA-based vaccinations were the most effective booster shots.

“The CovBoost study showed mRNA vaccines were particularly valuable for the booster,” Professor Bauld stated on BBC Breakfast, citing the study.

“And that means Pfizer and Moderna have been used for the initial booster and now for the additional pone that’s being rolled out.

“When that’s either on top of the first vaccines, it looks to be the most effective approach.”

Some people may still get the AstraZeneca vaccination if they have allergies to the chemicals in either of the mRNA vaccines, she said.

This vaccine is still used to give first and second doses over the world, and it appears to be the most effective way to defend against the virus when combined with mRNA boosters.

AstraZeneca, unlike Pfizer and Moderna, is a vector vaccine, which means it exposes people to a modified version of the virus.

The mRNA vaccines are intended to manufacture specific proteins that cause your body to produce antibodies to fight the virus.

She added: “So all of our vaccines are important, we’re lucky to have so many of them.

“But for the boosters, the main raiontale for the mrna vaccines primarily being used was just based on research.”
