Following the detection of salmonella on the manufacturing line at a plant in Galilee, Strauss, one of Israel’s leading food manufacturers and popular chocolate maker, issued a recall for the most of its “Elite” line of chocolate snacks on Monday.

The popular Pesek Zman and Kif Kef candy bars, as well as Energy chocolate-coated crackers and Bonbonniere candy boxes, are among the items being recalled. Strauss reported that production of various chocolate products in the factory had been ceased immediately and products manufactured in the area of the salmonella discovery had been banned from distribution.

The company announced that it had alerted the Health Ministry and advised the public not to consume the recalled products, causing its stock to fall two points on the Tel Aviv Stock Exchange.

“The company apologizes to its customers,” Strauss stated.

Israel joined the British Food Standards Agency’s recall of Kinder Surprise chocolate eggs earlier this month, fearing they were also infected with salmonella.

Ferrero, an Italian confectionary company, makes the candy.

Premium Confectionary and Trading, Ferrero’s official Israeli distributor, indicated on Wednesday that it will voluntarily return a number of Kinder goods made in its Belgian factory, according to Israel’s Health Ministry.

In response, the Israeli distributor of the well-known Italian candy, Premium Confectionary and Trading, said that it will voluntarily return a number of Kinder goods made in its Belgian plant.
