Intruder spends a night in royal barracks and gets breakfast

Once again, a stranger made it near the royal quarters of Windsor Castle. The man slept alongside the Royal Guards before police took him away.

Behind the royal palace walls, things are likely to be bubbling violently at the moment. The reason: another security gap in the security. A stranger posing as a priest managed to sneak into the Coldstream Guards barracks last Wednesday.

This is now reported, among other things, by the “Daily Mail”. The Royal Guardsmen, identifiable by their red jackets and black bearskin hats, play a ceremonial role as protectors of Windsor Castle and Buckingham Palace and are just meters from Windsor Castle.

According to the British newspaper, the stranger not only stayed the night next to the high-ranking officials but was also offered food and drink – even though he could not show any ID.

“This is an absolute shocker for the regiment. We’re the Guards, or supposed to be. It’s so embarrassing,” a source told newspaper.

“He said he was a priest called Father Cruise who was a friend of the battalion padre, Reverend Matt Coles. So the blokes on the gate let him in and directed him to the officers’ mess.”

Officers enjoyed fun evening with the intruder

And further: «He then spent the evening drinking in the mess bar and telling stories about serving in Iraq and winning a medal for gallantry.”

The officers enjoyed his jokes and there were many drinks.

When the scam was discovered, the police were called and the alleged priest was escorted out of the premises.

“We received a report of an intruder at Victoria Barracks on Sheet Street in Windsor at 9.20 am on Wednesday. Officials dealt with and removed the intruder from the barracks. No further action was required,” a Thames Valley police spokesman told the Daily Mail.

The Queen herself was spending a few relaxing days in Sandringham at the time.

Army is shocked

It is said that people behind the palace walls were shocked by the incident. “The Army takes this breach of security extremely seriously and it will be thoroughly investigated as a matter of priority,” a spokesman said. An investigation has now been initiated, which is why no further comment on the events will be made at the moment.

The incident is the latest in a series of safety concerns for the 95-year-old Queen. It was not until late December that an armed intruder gained access to the Windsor Castle grounds .

He is said to have announced the planned assassination of the monarch in advance in a video.
