This Is ‘A Promising Approach To Decrease Body Weight’ – According to Researchers

The findings contribute to a better understanding of the mechanisms behind the benefits of this diet and how circadian disturbance can contribute to metabolic disease.

Researchers discovered that mice who eat during the active period of their daily circadian cycle burn more calories through improved thermogenesis, preventing the development of obesity.

The findings contribute to a better understanding of the mechanisms behind the benefits of time-restricted meals and how circadian disturbance can contribute to metabolic disease.

Even though studies have shown that the timing of meals in relation to daily cycles of activity and sleep can lead to obesity and other metabolic problems, the exact ways this happens are still not known.

Chelsea Hepler and colleagues studied the impact of time-restricted feeding (TRF) on mice given high-fat diets (HFD) in order to clarify these details.

Hepler et al. discovered through a series of tests that mice fed an HFD at night during the active portion of their daily circadian cycle burnt more calories through adipocyte thermogenesis, protecting them from diet-induced obesity.

The results show that the defective creatine cycle and the adipocytes’ circadian clock are required for this increased thermogenesis.

When feeding was timed to the active phase in mouse models with low adipocyte creatine levels, thermogenesis could not be boosted. This led to the same weight gain as when feeding was done at the wrong time.

Damien Lagarde and Lawrence Kazak write: “TRF in humans appears to be a promising approach to decrease body weight and improve metabolic health with few side effects. The work of Hepler et al. expands our knowledge about the mechanisms that underlie the benefits of TRF.”
