Apple: Jailbreak for iOS 12.4 accidentally possible

Published on

Apple has indirectly jailbreaked iOS 12.4. The gap has actually been closed with iOS 12.3, but again it is possible with iOS 12.4.

A security expert has released a working jailbreak for Apple’s current iOS 12.4 mobile operating system. But it must be restored after each restart.

According to a report from the motherboard website, Apple accidentally reopened a vulnerability that the company had already addressed in the previous version of iOS.

The security researcher with the pseudonym Pwn20wnd released the jailbreak for iOS 12.4 on Github. Google security expert Ned Williamson confirmed motherboard that the jailbreak is working.

However, such an intervention is not without risk. Many infections of iOS devices were only possible in the past if users had previously jailbreaked their device and used external app sources such as Chinese app stores.

For example, a malware for iOS 2015 seized the user data of more than 225,000 Apple accounts and blocked iPhones for the users. Only users who had themselves jailbroken from Chinese Cydia repositories were affected.
