Women Are Really Better At Detecting Single Men By Their Smell, Scientists Find

Published on

How a person’s smell influences people around them is a physiological mystery. New research has examined the impact of men’s smell on women.

According to a study conducted by psychologists at Macquarie University in Sydney, Australia, women can distinguish which males are married and which are not by their body odor.

Additionally, women find the scent of single men more attractive than that of men who are in relationships.

82 straight women between the ages of 18 and 35 took part in the experiment. They were instructed to evaluate the body and face odors of guys for the researchers.

Each person in the study got T-shirts from six men. Three of them were single, and the other three were married.

The men wore their T-shirts for a full day, and then the women had to smell them.

They were also asked, “How much do you like/dislike this smell?” and “How sexy does this smell?”

According to the study‘s findings, all women were more sensitive to the body odors of single men than to those of men in committed relationships.

The married participants also found the faces of single men to be more masculine.

Scientists say that women can tell if a man is single based on his level of testosterone. The stronger the smell, the higher the level of testosterone.

From an evolutionary perspective, it may be beneficial for women to seek out single men, as they may have more resources and time to devote to a relationship.
