The US should stop threatening Moscow and facilitate Russian-Ukrainian peace talks, says Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman Zhao Lijian.
Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman Zhao Lijian said on Wednesday that the US must show its commitment to resolving the Ukraine conflict by easing sanctions against Russia.
“If the US is truly interested in resolving the Ukrainian crisis, <…> they should stop waving the sanctions baton,” he said during a briefing.
According to the diplomat, White House representatives should stop threatening Moscow and promote Russian-Ukrainian peace talks.
“The US is profiting from chaos. Sanctions will not bring back peace and security,” he added.
During a new briefing Deputy Foreign Minister Alexander Grushko told journalists that Russia expects that NATO countries will continue to supply arms to Ukraine.
“They deliver individually, will continue to deliver, this is obvious,” he said responding to a question by TASS.
On Tuesday, Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg said that the top diplomats will discuss the types of military aid that can be sent to Ukraine.
He urged NATO countries to re-arm Ukrainian troops in the coming weeks. That said, the secretary general refused to talk about specific types of NATO’s aid, only confirming that the alliance will continue to supply Ukraine with anti-tank and portable air defense systems, ammunition, fuel and equipment.
He also added that the member states had increased the volume of humanitarian financial aid. Additionally, NATO will help Ukraine bolster its cybersecurity and deliver the means of defense against chemical and biological threats.
