Citizenship Amendment Bill enacted; Army saves train passengers’ lives in crowded Assam and five big news related to CAB

1- President Ram Nath Kovind has given his approval to the Citizenship Amendment Bill 2019. After this, it has become law. According to an official notification, this law has come into force after being published in the official gazette on Thursday. According to this law, members of Hindu, Sikh, Buddhist, Jain, Parsi and Christian communities who have come to India from Pakistan, Bangladesh and Afghanistan till 31 December 2014 and have suffered religious persecution in their country, will not be considered as illegal migrants, rather Indian citizenship will be given.

2- According to the law, refugees from these six communities will be given citizenship of India after staying in India for five years. Till now this deadline was 11 years. According to the law, such refugees will be given pardon from lawsuits if they are found as non-law migrants. According to the Citizenship Amendment Act, it will not apply to the tribal areas of Assam, Meghalaya, Mizoram and Tripura, as these areas are included in the Sixth Schedule of the Constitution. In addition, this law will also not be applicable in areas with Inner Line Permit (ILP) notified under the Bengal Eastern Border Regulation, 1873.

3- On the other hand, the entire Northeast including Assam is on a boil against the Citizenship Amendment Act. In the midst of protests yesterday, the army said that it rescued passengers from an express train at Naharkatiya railway station in Assam from setting off the coaches. According to PTI, an army spokesman said that the mob surrounded the Silchar-Dibrugarh Brahmaputra Express and they were about to set fire to it that the security forces reached there. He said that the railway authorities requested immediate help to save the passengers. Reacting immediately, contingents of Army and Assam Rifles reached the spot and drove out the crowd.

4- Amid violent protests against the Citizenship Amendment Act in Assam, several senior police officers including the Commissioner of Police of Guwahati have been transferred. Curfew continues in Guwahati. Internet service is also banned in Assam. Despite all this, violence in the state is not taking the name of stopping. People are taking to the streets by breaking curfew. Two people died on Thursday in police firing.

5- On the other hand, Bangladesh has asked India to protect its mission in Guwahati. This request has been made in view of violent protests against the Citizenship Amendment Act in Assam. The mob has damaged two signposts near the mission. The Foreign Ministry said in a statement that the security of the mission has been increased.
