At least 15 dead and more than 60 injured in a plane crash in Kazakhstan

The wrecked plane (Z2100), which authorities said did not catch fire after the collision, was flying between Almaty, the largest city in the country, and Nur-Sultan, the Kazakh capital

At least 15 people died and another 60 were injured when a passenger plane crashed on Friday after taking off from the airport of the Kazakh city of Almaty, according to the latest data provided by the Kazakhstan authorities.

“A total of 15 people died: 14 at the accident sites and one in the hospital”, Almaty Health Department chief Tleuján Abildáyev reported.

He added that 50 people were hospitalized, 12 of whom are severe, and 16 others received outpatient medical care.
The aircraft, Fokker-100 belonging to the Kazakh company Bek Air with 100 people on board – 95 passengers and five crew members – crashed as soon as it took off.
Kassym-Jomart Kemelyevich Tokayev, the president of Kazakhstan, through his Twitter account, expressed his condolences to the relatives of the fatalities and assured that “those responsible for the accident will be sued according to the law.”
The Ministry of Industry and Infrastructure of Kazakhstan ordered the suspension of all flights of this type of aircraft until the causes of the accident are clarified.
