Always attentive to everything, alert and imposing their presence, leopards are one of the animals most respected by other species. However, sometimes they too are unprepared.

The viral Hyena posted on the YouTube channel Kruger Sightings occurred during a morning safari at the Western Sabi Sands, adjacent to South Africa’s Kruger National Park. In the video, you can see how the hyena sneaks up on the leopard that just woke up from a nap and was very focused on preening.

“We stopped, sat down and watched for about five minutes as guests pulled out their cameras to capture the sighting for their memories,” says guide Jason Joubert.

“We did not expect the hyena to walk directly towards the leopard and we thought the leopard would detect the hyena immediately, but this was not the case,” he added.

“The leopard got up slowly, almost asleep, and realized with a jolt that the hyena was now almost face to face. He got up and jumped back, growling. This was a comical scene, everyone in the vehicle laughed a lot,” concluded the 33-year-old man.
