The 3D ladder of Schroder: the best optical illusion of 2020

Published on

The 3D version of Schroeder’s famous staircase illusion, published by the German naturalist scientist Heinrich G. F. Schroder in 1858, has become the best optical illusion of 2020, according to the Neural Correlate Society.

This version of the already famous illusion has been created by the Japanese Kokichi Sugihara, who has unveiled this staircase in a way never seen before.

In the video, it can be seen that, due to the configuration of its elements, this stair always has the appearance of going up in a certain direction. The jury for the Optical Illusion of the Year competition decided to award Sugihara for rethinking an illusion that is almost 200 years old in a modern way.

The Neural Correlate Society is a non-profit organization that promotes research into the correlations between perception and cognition. Its main objective is to make these findings public and assist in the development of medicine.
