For the first time in the world: gorillas test positive for Coronavirus in the US

Animals could have become infected from a zoo employee who was an asymptomatic carrier of Covid-19.

According to the report, On January 6, Members of the Gorilla Troop at the San Diego Zoo Safari noticed two gorillas started coughing and seeing the current situation, they decided to perform the Covid-19 tests on animals and initiated the process to take samples with the help of the California Animal Health and Food Safety Laboratory System (CA HFS).

The U.S Department of Agriculture (USDA) National Veterinary Services Laboratories (NVSL) declared the positive results on Monday, January 11.

“Tests for SARS-CoV-2 in gorillas in San Diego Safari Park have shown positive results,” the report said.

The remaining gorillas showed no symptoms of infection.
