According to the Austrian network ORF, Ivan Viola from the Vienna University of Technology and King Abdullah University of Science and Technology in Saudi Arabia said the study was carried out with the help of researchers from Tsinghua University in Beijing.
“Intact” SARS-CoV-2 virus particles were extracted into samples, and then scanned by cryo-EM microscopy (Cryo-EM) in which the sample was frozen and bombarded with electrons.
“The deflection of the electrons due to the interaction with the sample gives a picture of the structure of the virus”, as the German newspaper reports, explaining the method of photographic recording of the coronavirus applied by the Austrian company.
