The Italian writer Umberto Eco has been resurrected on social networks by a video prior to his death in 2016. The images reveal the infinite dimensions of his private library while the author of ‘The name of the rose’ walks through endless corridors to find a book among vast shelves filled with tens of thousands of works.

Umberto Eco’s private library in his apartment in Milan, northern Italy, draws attention to its extension. It is said that there the writer and reference also in semiology maintained a collection of 30,000 books.

Eco also had another 20,000 books in his summer home in Urbino, eastern Italy, near the coast of the Adriatic Sea.

The images showing Umberto Eco touring his private library belonging to an interview conducted by the author in 2015. The video was shared by the Spanish writer Luis Roso on his Twitter account and went viral with varied reactions, such as emphasizing that the library is so extensive that Eco had to organize it by geographic coordinates.

“I have always imagined that Paradise will a kind of a library,” says one of the verses of the Poem about Gifts, by the Argentine writer Jorge Luis Borges. Perhaps it is the same as his story The Library of Babelwhich contained all possible books, and, although it was not infinite, it was vast.

Not in vain Borges was one of the authors most admired by Umberto Eco, who paid homage to the Argentine through a character in his novel The Name of the Rose, the blind monk in charge of the abbey library where the plot takes place. His name, Jorge de Burgos.
