The outfits of North Korean leader Kim Jong-un provoke media speculation about some kind of relationship between his style and his politics. Yonhap published a video that brings together the representative’s appearances in different clothes.
In mid-January, Kim Jong-un wore a black leather trench coat to attend the military parade held to mark the 8th Congress of the Workers’ Party of Korea. The North Korean leader’s style, according to the agency, sparked a wave of speculation in the media.

Meanwhile, the outlet notes that the North Korean president had worn his leather trench coat on several occasions: for a missile test in 2019, a dedication ceremony in Samjiyon the same year, as well as during a visit to a fertilizer factory in 2020.
Kim Jong-un used to wear a black Mao-style suit before. He could also be seen in classic costumes. Sometimes he put on a light raincoat.
And in 2019, photos of the North Korean leader appeared riding a white horse in a long, light coat.
On several occasions, Kim Jong-un preferred a less formal style, such as a white shirt without a tie or even a simple T-shirt. According to some analysts, in this way, the North Korean leader wanted to show that he cared for ordinary people.
At the same time, the agency notes that several senior officials also wore black leather trench coats recently, including his sister, Kim Yo-jong, North Korean third leader Jo Yong-won, and the politician and singer, Hyon Song-wol.
“In North Korea, wearing clothing similar to the leader’s can be seen as an attempt to undermine his authority,” the outlet said.
