Why, almost a year after the pandemic hit, the US CDC seems completely unprepared for vaccinations

MIT review analyzing the current situation on Covid-19 vaccination campaign highlights some serious issues, those must be resolved on priority.

In the US, several States have not received enough doses of coronavirus vaccines – and online “appointment” is proving to be a chaotic experience. A new report from MIT attempts to analyze why almost a year after the pandemic hit the country, The US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) seems completely unprepared for vaccinations.

According to the report, although it was already known what was needed for the creation of a single Center for all – for patients, health workers and government officials and on the basis of that, the US CDC decided to spend $ 44 million on something called the Vaccine Administration Management System (VAMS) Program, created by Deloitte, which turned out to be so difficult to use that some States are now trying to build their own vaccine distribution and vaccination appointment systems.

Health professionals in Connecticut, Virginia and other states say the Deloitte Vaccine Management System is not reliable as it is unnecessarily canceling vaccination appointments and creating unreliable registrations, and these problems throwing workers out of the system.

The CDC recognizes the problem, says it is trying to find solutions – but on the other hand, blames those who try to make an appointment to get vaccinated!

But it’s not just elderly people – who obviously are less familiar with technology – who have a problem with the Vaccine Administration Management System: In many cases, medical center workers fail to make appointments for people who want to be vaccinated – and give up the effort…

“It won’t work on Internet Explorer; it only works in Chrome. The ‘Next’ button is all the way down and to the right, so if you’re on a cell phone, you literally can’t see it. If you’re 75 and someone asks you to log into VAMS, there is zerowayit’ll happen without help”, explained Courtney Rowe,  a pediatric urologist from Connecticut Children’s Medical Center.
