The modernized US F-15EX fighter-bomber makes its first flight

Boeing‘s modernized F-15EX fighter-bomber made its maiden flight on February 2. According to the source, the company plans to deliver the first two planes to the US Air Force in March.

Initially, the flight was scheduled for February 1, but weather conditions made the company postpone the test for one day. There was also a delay on February 2, but only for a couple of hours.

The flight lasted about 90 minutes and the plane worked as expected.

According to the company, the aircraft is ready to join the US combat fleet.

Boeing unveiled the F-15E Strike Eagle fighter-bomber modernization project in the summer of 2018.

The F-15EX is designed to carry a heavier missile payload than current F-15 Strike Eagle and incorporates the latest advanced battle management systems, sensors and weapons.

The plane could become the most armed fighter in the world: one of its combat configurations will be equipped with 22 air-to-air missiles and another with 8 air-to-air missiles and 28 guided aerial bombs.

The US Air Force awarded Boeing a contract worth about $ 1.2 billion in July last year to build the first batch of eight advanced F-15EX fighter jets.

Once delivered to the Air Force, the first two F-15EXs will go to Eglin Air Force Base, Florida, for testing.
