How to stop eating unhealthy sugar cravings

Sugar can cause tooth decay, diabetes or obesity. This food provides nothing but empty calories and contains no nutrients. However, it is very difficult to eliminate sweets from the diet. A nutritionist gives advice on how to do it.

Scientists have shown that sugar causes a very drug-like reaction in the brain by changing its chemistry and creating a sweet addiction. Sweet foods cause dependency despite all the damage they cause. Sugar cravings are always the hardest to give up.

Additionally, excessive consumption of sugar has been linked to a wide range of psychological problems. Stress, low mood, or even general boredom can make you crave sugary foods and desserts.

Refusing sweets can be a huge struggle for people on a weight loss diet since sugar is nothing more than empty calories. It has no nutritional value and greatly increases your daily calorie intake, plus it can affect blood sugar levels.

Nutritionist Pooja Malhotra shared tips that can help you stop eating sugary foods.

Drink enough water and stay well hydrated. Dehydration can be one of the many causes of sweets, says the Delhi-based nutritionist.

Fruits or nuts, such as dried apricots, raisins, or dates are good healthy alternatives for sugar cravings.

Always have fennel seeds, a mouth freshener or something similar on hand. They can quell sugar cravings.

Do not miss the main meals. It is necessary to ensure that the snacks between meals are not too heavy to suppress the appetite for the main meals.

It is necessary to follow a diet rich in fiber and protein. These nutrients provide satiety and also help curb cravings effectively.

You should reduce your intake of refined carbohydrates, artificial sweeteners, and other sugary foods to a minimum.

Control portions. It is better to eat just a small bite or eat just enough to satisfy a sweet addiction. Also limit its consumption to occasions such as birthdays, anniversaries and parties.
