Patients with mild symptoms could face worse long-lasting Covid symptoms – Doctor warns

An expert from NHS warns of a worse Long Covid in people who only had mild symptoms of the coronavirus.

Dr. Melissa Heightman, from the Covid taskforce of NHS, explained that people who were hospitalized and recovered are not more likely to face long-covid symptoms.

Symptoms like Brain Fog, fatigue or side effects from the vaccine, may be felt by patients for months and for some patients, it’s been very difficult to return to normal life.

According to reports from All-Party Parliamentary Group (APPG) and studies, one in five coronavirus patients exhibit long-term symptoms, while some regions estimates are slightly lower.

In a recent interview with BBC, Dr. Heightman, a respiratory therapist from University College London said that patients who did not show or suffer severe symptoms of coronavirus are more likely to experience long covid sysmptoms.

“We certainly see quite different patterns in patients that were admitted to hospital with severe infection versus those patients that weren’t hospitalised with the infection,” the doctor said.

“Even in them, the virus has been able to trigger effects that can contribute to them being unwell for months.”

‘The symptoms can be more difficult and more long-lasting in patients who were not admitted to hospital.’

She also claims that covid patients hospitalized with severe covid find ‘a really lovely improving trend with time’ but symptoms remain more stubborn in some.

The scientific community accepts that the virus affects everyone differently, and this could be the main reason for the difference in reactions, she added.

This post-viral syndrome is having a totally different and difficult mechanism but it can be treated with therapy if we follow the recovery process as a whole.
