Does vitamin D really reduce the risk of coronavirus infection or its a myth?

Published on

Coronavirus vaccines are now being rolled out around the world at record speed, but those who haven’t yet received their shots are wondering if alternatives, such as vitamin D, can reduce the risk of getting infected with Covid 19.

Many research has shown the impact of Vitamin D on the immune system and especially when it comes to the prevention of COVID-19.

According to some research, having good levels of vitamin D helps to develop a healthy immune system and can protect us against many respiratory illnesses.

But does Vitamin D really lower your risk of coronavirus, or protect you against it?

Vitamin D’s anti-inflammatory and immunoregulatory properties are very important for the activation of our immune system defenses. Its deficiency leads to the improper functioning of your immune system — which affects the body’s first line of defence against infection and disease like Coronavirus.

Healthy levels of Vitamin D also ensure the proper functioning of immune cells, which is important for protection against respiratory diseases, including tuberculosis, asthma, and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), as well as viral and bacterial respiratory infections.

As many studies have already revealed vitamin D enhances immune response, makes it stronger, and prepares it to fight against respiratory infections like SARS-COV-2 overall.

As of now, no study has confirmed yet that vitamin D protects you from Coronavirus infection but its deficiency may expose you more to overall infection and other diseases by damaging the immune system.

But people who have a healthy immune system are more protected and have a lower risk of getting severe coronavirus.
